the ten-week countdown.

After months and months of getting very, very excited, we're finally at the ten-week countdown to our end-of-summer Europe trip! Over the years, Radley and I have taken exactly one vacation that was just us, just because (our honeymoon), since all our other getaways have been to visit friends and family. That makes us all the more thrilled about August, when Radley and I will be traveling to London, Oxford, Munich, and Paris(!!) for a few weeks.

It's been seven years since I studied abroad in Oxford, and Radley's never been abroad, so between the two of us, we're pretty much beside ourselves with excitement. I'm hoping to show him around a few of my favorite spots in London, Oxford, and Paris, but neither of us have been to Munich before. Any suggestions? I'd love to hear any and all recommendations for all four cities!

I'm so jealous - England and France are two of my favorite places in the world!

Borough Market is a great food market - a variety of pastries, cheese, coffee, fruits, and vegetables. Crowded, but the energy is amazing. Seven Dials near Covent Garden is an urban village-type locale, with some good restaurants and small boutiques.

In a complete act of tourism, there is a company called Fat Tire Bike Tours and they offer a few different tours throughout Paris/Versailles. Guided tours with history lessons - all while enjoying a bike ride around the city. (My friend and I did both the day and night tours - the day one was great because we made a stop for crepes and coffee in the Tuileries Garden.) Also, each night once it's dark, the Eiffel Tower has a five to ten minute "light show" at the top of each hour - it's relaxing to have a bit of a picnic and witness it!

I second the two London options! LOVE Seven Dials. I'd also suggest heading to Greenwich Market or Broadway Market. A little bit less touristy, I think.

What a fun trip! We LOVED this day tour from Munich to see the Neuschwanstein Castles... one of the most fun days ever! http://www.munichwalktours.de/en/

Your itinerary looks great! Enjoy your trip :)

Since Justin & I have moved so far away from our friends & family, we have also been on lots of "vacations with a purpose," & not very many "vacations just to vacation." I'm looking forward to planning some "just vacations" for the two of us in the future. And wow, the one y'all are about to go on sounds wonderful. I hope y'all enjoy!

I really enjoy your blog, and your posts are so feel-good and inspiring, thank you!

I also studied abroad in Oxford. I will need to go back and find your posts about it, because for me, it was the best time of my life, and I'd love to hear about your experience there. Hope you'll share a lot about your time there later this summer-- it is such a spectacular place.

Notting Hill is one of my all time favorite movies. I walked around checking out many locations from the movie and was convinced I would run into Hugh Grant. You can follow the route here: http://golondon.about.com/od/walkingtoursoflondon/ss/Notting-Hill-Film-Locations-Walk.htm

I actually spent the first part of this year studying abroad in Oxford! Really, I have such great memories... which college were you in?

I hiiiiiiighly recommend MooMoo's Milkshakes and Ben's Cookies in the Covered Market, as well as grabbing Olive's sandwiches to go and picnicking in Christchurch Meadows or some other grassy area...

Have plenty more if you need anything specific - just holler at me :)

I would definitely suggest doing a bike tour in Munich! I did Mike's Bike tour and it was super fun. Here is a post about all the things my friends and I did in Munich.
