for radley — a little birthday love note:

I remember when you were the New Guy, our guy friends' friend, the one they said we'd love.

I remember the day you sent me a dozen red roses only weeks after we met. I remember thinking Is this guy for real? and then seeing the way you looked at me and deciding that you were.

I remember when things weren't so easy, but you had all the faith in the world.

I remember the first I love you and the second I love you but ever since then, I've sort of lost track. Truth is, I think I remember the special, unspoken I love you's most clearly.

I remember when it was June and we were graduating and we weren't sure of anything but each other. How afraid we were and how excited and how terribly, wonderfully sure.

I remember the moment your plane landed in Chicago. I remember running up to meet you — in wild disbelief that you'd actually moved across the country to be with me. I remember crying.

I remember watching you fall in love with the city, my friends, my family.

I remember the first night in our empty apartment, our sweet and simple living room picnic: just us, a few sleeping bags, and a sprawled-out blanket lined with pillows and takeout Chinese.

I remember walking on a quiet, snowy day, the half-smirk you gave as you mentioned forever.

I remember the night you proposed — how everything felt so magical and surreal that we just kept looking at each other, exchanging silly grins, silent because we knew the words would've failed.

I remember those first few weeks in San Francisco, the early morning runs along the water, how we'd turn to each other and say: We're meant for this city, this state, this life, each other.

I remember, best of all, vowing to be yours, the promises we made, the friends and family who surrounded us. I remember how you seemed lit from within, so filled with love that you were glowing.

And I remember every day why it's you, why it's us — why it's all worth remembering.

How beautifully put. The Husb and I have a similar at the beginning photo and memories of our first place/beginnings in the city. The little joys of finding your person when you're young, college kids starting life as a duo. :)
