She's my soulmate other half: the one who always has the right words, the right gift, the right witty one-liner to lift you up. And last week, I was honored to have her stand by my side as one of my bridesmaids. Here, you'll find Sam's take on finding love, and you can see more of her incredible photos (and effortlessly wise words) on her blog, ashore.
During Laura and Radley's ceremony, the officiant said, "If your heart is hurt, it can be healed again."
Here was proof: Two people overflowing with joy. Grateful — but not in the least surprised — to have found each other. Laura called it "a miracle that's meant to be."
Before forever, of course, there's fear. Fear that we'll never find the one. Fear that the longing we feel is just a phantom itch without an object. We long for someone. It's a very real and specific someone that we don't know yet. Experience hasn't given form to them. We don't know their mornings, the things that make them real — the way they sleep with their legs curled under the covers, the way they like their eggs.
We don't know who. And yet we wait.
And then one day, you walk into a house party and find love. Despite the tears and all the time, it feels sudden. It's so suprising that all it took was this one moment! A moment that will forever separate the "before" and "after."
Really, that's all we're waiting for ... just one. One moment. One person.
Which isn't so many, isn't so impossible, isn't so hard to find.
