It's been a little over six months since we moved to San Francisco, but the truth is, our jobs and our wedding have taken precedence over any sort of decorating. Turning our tiny apartment into a home has been a slow process, an every-so-often effort. (See earlier pictures here.) Still, it's been nice to take our time and make purchases that will last us a lifetime — or, you know, something close to it.
I love our vintage San Francisco and Chicago maps from the AncientShades Etsy shop. (You'll have to excuse the glare — our living room may as well be a sun room.) We're both so attached to our home cities, and by now we've created new memories together in each place, so from the get-go we knew that we wanted to somehow feature the cities side-by-side... And I know that our white couch really isn't the most functional option, but we love things light and bright, and it went so well with our consigned wooden side table ($100!) that we just had to take the plunge.
I've long had a sunburst mirror on my To Buy list — and since books/the sun are my two favorite things, why not arrange the mirror so that it reflects the bookshelf? (P.S. The wooden buffet cabinet was also consigned for something like $150... If you ever want to go secondhand, do it in Marin.)
I thought it would be tough for any furniture to compete with my love for our color-coded bookshelf, but this golden bar cart may just do the trick. There's truly nothing that I love more than a good gold accent, and a bar cart is just so retro and charming, you know?
Do you have a favorite piece of furniture? A favorite corner of your house?
