what i've learned from... my brother charlie.

Go to school in San Diego. It's the perfect excuse to live in paradise for a little while, and hitting the books really isn't so bad when you're doing it poolside.

It's possible to surprise people. Yourself, too.

Keep the friends you had growing up, because they'll always know you in a different way than anyone else ever could.

There's something to be said for hard work, routine, and security.

It's okay to have an opinion.

Decide what you want to do with your life and then do everything you have to do in order to make it happen. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it.

Pack your lunch—it's better for you and for your wallet.

Also, drink less Diet Coke.

Suck it up. Not everything should be easy. So 99% of the time, just suck it up and do it.

Be humble.

You really can have a marriage, two kids, a huge family, plus a demanding job and still find a way to make it all work. Learn to balance and compromise.

Remember to take some time for yourself.

Give your little sister random advice that she'll hold on to like it's gold. Also, give her the "cool" CDs when she's 13 to let her know that music exists outside of boybands. She'll hold on to those, too.

These posts are always so sweet. Your brother sounds like a good guy. I know my older brother has told me a lot of advice like this as well. And the giving your little sister CD's is perfect, he did that for me all the time.

@Katherine Krieg Thanks, Katherine! Yeah, I'm pretty lucky — I actually have not one but three great brothers! :)
