a (tiny) glimpse into our apartment.

It's still a blank slate--several bare walls, a few pieces of furniture missing here and there, some windows that are basically begging for drapes--but it definitely feels like ours. Like home.

I've come to fall in love with the nooks and crannies, the way the sunlight slips through the slats of our blinds and splays itself across the floor at sharp angles. Every day I find myself waiting for the clock to reach four-thirty just so that I can watch as the apartment fills with golden half-light--the opening act for a watercolor sunset.

Settling into this space has been a labor of love, to be sure, but I sort of relish that it's still a work-in-progress. I sort of delight in the fact that nothing feels quite done--that every room is filled with potential. Potential and sunlight.

... Oh, and yes--yes I did organize the bookcase by color.

My closet is organized by color.. never thought about doing that with my books! I think that will need to happen! :)

Very, very awesome place! I love how clean and simple everything is, that's my favorite type of design. :)

I had a melt down with my mom on the phone the other day. I've been having a mini-identity crisis lately worrying that either A) I'll never be able to create a space that is as home-y as the house I grew up in or B) I will but it will take me about 30 years to do so (and lets just face it I don't have 30 years to just not have a home-y place to be)

She said that sometimes people just have the "home-yness" built into them. And it's not something you can get rid of, even when dishes pile up into the sink and you aren't allowed to burn candles, and frustration springs up between roommates and you simply do not feel like ever being at your apartment. I just simply live somewhere and someplace that isn't letting my home-yness out to play.

You have the home-yness in you. While your apartment still has things to do, I felt at rest looking at these pictures and imagining the life you are creating there with your honey. Congratulations. It's everything a home should be.

That is absolutely, hands down, the best bookcase I've ever seen. Ever.

I'm in love with the bookcase and the colours! Though I'm quite OCD about height and width, I do take colour into account too. (Weirdo, I know)
