a weekend "trip."

When I first came back from abroad, in an effort to hold onto the special magic of traveling, I liked to treat each weekend as if I were on vacation--as if I had two days to make the most of the city. I'd visit museums I'd never seen before and go to restaurants I'd passed hundreds of times but never actually tried. I skipped laundry in favor of happy hours, skipped the gym to see a new bookstore.

It made a real impact, and every once in a while I decide to do it all over again.

Instead of filling Saturdays with to-do after boring to-do, I make an effort to do something new or to go somewhere I've never gone before. Because it's important, I think, to carry that little spark of exploring into the everyday... and why not today, right?

Here's to a weekend trip... (right here at home!)

I like that philosophy. I try to get as much out of my weekend as I can as well - I mean, I cherish those two days each week that let me do that! Have a good one!

i love that!
I love being a "tourist" in San Francisco.

I think we are going to hit up the ferry farmer's market!

Love that idea! I should really take that up since I am in a new city after all. :)

one of the joys of living in big cities in the opportunity of staycations. Have fun!

completely agree! And I also believe you don't have to be in a big city to get out and explore. The best thing about my current job is the 10/4 schedule that gives me three-day weekends!

@mekatsu Good call! I was supposed to go there last weekend but something came up... I swear I'll make it one of these weeks!

everyone should do this once in a while.. be a tourist in your own city! i think its important. there is probably more to do around your area that you will only find out if you look/explore the area!
perfect idea :)

lucky for us we live in a city where we can make every weekend special. whether its a street fair, museum, being a tourist, crossing the bridge and exploring nearby cities. you make me giddy about living here
