a long, easy exhale.

At last.

That's the thought that keeps running through my head: At last, we are here. At last, California. For so long we've known that we were moving. For so long we've been talking about it and preparing for it and waiting waiting waiting, but at long last we are here. In a lovely little neighborhood with a lovely little view, and only six blocks from the water. We are here.

On the surface, last week seemed a bit hectic. There were (several) necessary Target runs, some furniture shopping, some furniture selling, tons of tiny errands and plenty of organizing. But even as we were running around--even in the midst of cleaning and lifting and hauling and sorting--it all felt like one giant sigh of relief. Like a long, easy exhale. All the anxious anticipation that had been building up over the past few months released itself at the sight of the ocean. At the sight of boats and kites and a sunset over the water. At last.

Oh, and I must mention the walks, the heavenly early morning walks we've been taking each morning. Hand-in-hand we stroll along the waterfront--coffees clutched in our free hands, of course--as we watch the fog roll over the bridge.

This week, and for the few that follow, we'll be in my favorite phase of moving: settling in. There's nothing like the feeling of a fresh start, and I'm thrilled at the chance to arrange things just so, to create a special space for this new chapter we've begun. Routine, too--I'm looking forward to that, to the simplicity of steady days and a sense of pattern in our lives.

The transition to San Francisco has been a smooth one--natural, even--and although I already find myself missing family and friends, I'm glad to say that I'm more than a little happy. I'm calm and contented and comfortable. And comfort, I think, carries the promise that things are right.

At last.

Is that picture a view of your little neighborhood? If so, love it!
Although I'm sure every part of San Francisco is great! I've never been there myself, but I'd love to visit someday.
Yay, for you finally having moved!
