on finding The Dress.

The original plan yesterday was to visit a bridal salon, check out some of the styles, see what sorts of designs I liked, and then wait until I was in California to actually buy a dress. But, well, that's just not the way things panned out... Because after three hours and twelve dresses, I found mine. It was the one I'd picked out, the one I glimpsed on a hanger as soon as we walked in the door and absolutely had to try on: it held every element of a dress that I'd ever imagined wearing on my wedding day, and I only hoped I'd love it on me as much as I did on a hanger. And, well, yes. Yesyesyes, it was the one!

I walked into the day having no expectations, none whatsoever, and I ended up having one of the best nights of my life. As soon as I put on The Dress, I turned to my mom and said: "Call Kari." (My godmother who lives near the salon.) She and her daughter, Molly, my lifelong best friend, immediately ran over to the salon and I could tell from their faces that they agreed--that this was it. I'm the sort of person who needs a bit of reassurance, and Mols gave it to me in the most simple, perfect way, saying: "You're wearing the dress from the inside out, and every time I look at it I find something new to love."

And that was it. There were squeals and tears and laughs, there was jumping up and down and hugging and model poses and the most ridiculous, hilarious of photo shoots. And there may have also been some Kate Middleton royal waves involved--you know, with the hand cupped--but can you blame me?

Afterwards, we cheered and squealed and cried some more, toasted with champagne, and dove into the most delicious desserts given to us by our waiter--on the house, in honor of "The Big Day." (PS: We may or may not have shown said waiter pictures of me in the dress, and he may or may not have thought we were insane for all our celebrating... But there was free dessert involved, so the awkward stares from fellow diners? Totally worth it. PPS: I apologize for having to share a dessert picture rather than a dress picture--but, of course, it'll have to be a surprise.)

This morning I woke up and had to pinch myself: I found my wedding dress. I'll no longer be sketching my dream dress like I did during 7th Grade sleepovers with my best friends. Instead, I'll actually be wearing my dream dress to marry my dream guy, the one I love most in the world.

Wow... I have to say: That gets me every time.

I kid you not, I read this post while watching Say Yes to the Dress. Which is to say, I'm so envious of your great dress shopping experience and I may not know you well, but I am already so excited to see pictures!

Congratulations! I found my dress the first time out too - and I wasn't even really looking! (My best friend and I went to the salon so I could try on stuff I didn't like so we could giggle and narrow it down). Someone told me my dress would speak to me which I thought was the most ridiculous thing ever, but when I walked out of the dressing room I remember saying a soft "oh," and just looking in the mirror. Then I told my best friend, "I can see myself saying my vows in this."

So happy you got to experience that as well! Congratulations!
