on balance.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about that oh-so-elusive quality we all seem to be searching for in our lives: balance. It's a tricky thing, a complicated pursuit for all of us. Because at the end of the day, what are the main things we're juggling? What is it, exactly, that we're trying to balance?

For me, there are three parts of life that I try to keep in check: health, relationships, and career. Good health, of course, is essential, and relationships are the very thing I live for, what life--to me--is all about. And career, that seems to be my driving force--the thing that makes me tick, the passion that keeps it all moving forward.

In my experience, what underlines this balancing act is the understanding that priorities are constantly shifting. Sometimes, health will have to be front and center, the focus of the day. Other times, when you or the people you care about really need support, it's your relationships that require attention. And then, of course, there are periods when work has to has to be your main concern.

Balance, then, isn't so much about giving 100% to everything all of the time. Instead, balance relies on a certain kind of awareness--an insight into what areas of your life need a bit of work, into what gaps need to be filled. And doesn't that feel just a little more manageable?

I'm curious: What do you do to stay balanced?
How do you maintain all the different areas of your life?

I write everything down in my planner to stay balanced. Knowing that I have a 40 hour work week, grocery shopping, gym time, dinner with friends, and weekend plans all need to be written down. Otherwise, I would forget and then my relationships with myself and otehrs would be off balance. :)

Love this post. :)
I try and stay balanced through writing my day down and prioritizing what's more important. Then I can give more attention to the bigger priorities.

Honestly, it's sad but I actually have no balance in my life, I work too much and that makes me to neglect the rest... :( I have too little time to make things that I really enjoy and thank God I have really great friends who put up with me :)

Honestly I have very little balance in my life. It's a struggle I have been dealing with for about a year. I work a lot, and by the end of the day I'm so fried that it's hard to find the energy/motivation/drive to do anything else.

I am in the process of setting a daily routine (morning & evening) to try and get back some of the balance I am missing.

Just came across your blog -- I look forward to following you.

I really do care about the areas you do. Unfortunately the relationships is the more afected area and i keep it for last for too long. But i'm there when my friends need me and i know they're here for me. Well, health for me it's all about going to the gym three times a week (which is also my kind of second home and it's always funny and good to socialize too). Career, i'm working on it now. But ballance is hard. But i try to focus on what i'm doing at the moment, i try to forget my problems while i'm at work, i try to release all the work stress while i'm at the gym and i care about my special ones probably all they long when there's something wrong in their lifes. I know it's important to be there for them to share happiness to but it's more important to share sadness, cause they can share happiness with others when i'm not available :)

I'm fortunate to live a pretty simple life (some might say boring)and I've just recently found a creative outlet. I find myself getting lost in creating and somehow everything else seems to fall into place.
