This weekend was an all-out Fathers Day weekend: the Cubs/Yankees game (we won!), a family breakfast, a backyard BBQ, a movie night, and some serious board game tournaments. Because this guy right here, he deserves more than just a day.

See, I'm blessed. Really, really blessed.

I have a dad who taught me the value of hard work and honesty, of self-discipline and self-confidence. A dad who taught me to give, give, give--to anyone and everyone, even yourself. A dad who raised me to be one of the guys and one of the girls--a dad who eats, sleeps, breathes sports but can't turn down a good chick flick, either. A dad who brought me to hockey games and skating rinks and NSYNC concerts, who taught me to shoot a basket and to give a speech. A dad who encouraged me to respect myself and the people around me, to pursue my passions, to find the love I deserve.

Five kids--five--and he's managed to make each one of us feel special.

He's the king of catch phrases, too, like "You bet!" and "Be smart!" and "Make good choices!"
And then, of course, there's my favorite: "Life's good, Marie. Life's good."

It is, Dad. It really is--and so much of that is thanks to you.
Happy Fathers Day Week!

I got a little misty-eyed reading this. There is so much heart in it. So much love. And by all accounts, he sounds like one fabulous father. I think the success of a man can so often be pinned down to how he raises his kids. I know he's a good dad through you--but not through you telling us. Through us seeing you as a person, every day, as you post. Through us seeing your optimism, respect and talent. He did a good job, I can tell you.

This is such a lovely tribute to your dad! I'm so glad you were able to do so much celebrating with him this weekend! I absolutely love reading posts about father's day because well, I love my dad to pieces and I'm so glad that there are so many lucky gals out there that's dad's rock! :) It's so wonderful how he did such a wonderful job being a dad and making each one of you special! :)
