April 4, 2011

a sentimental start to the week.

Finally, finally, winter has loosened its grip on Chicago.

This morning, I stepped outside--coaxed out of my cozy bed by the sound of birds singing (birds! singing!)--and I could smell last night's rain mingling with the scent of sweetened coffee wafting from the cafe next door. It was heaven, absolute heaven, and I found myself already smitten with springtime. Sun-drenched streets, swaying shadows on the sidewalk, and grass, freshly cut, underfoot.

Like I said--smitten.

Missouri is still teasing us. Yesterday I wore shorts and a tank top to church and was burning up. So I wore shorts again this morning to work. I was freezing the whole time! It's only 32 out! Gah! Why!?

Silly Chicago, you're further north. send some of your sweet rays down to Springfield.
