a list of little things | perks of post-college life

It's true that the years after college can be difficult.

It's a transition period, a strange phase when--for the first time--everyone you know is doing something different. No longer are you in the same grade, taking the same classes as all of your friends. Suddenly some of them are traveling, some are headed to corporations, some are continuing on through graduate school. There's no denying that it can be tough, really tough. But I was determined to find a bright side, too. And so:

perks of post-college life:
facing an open road, the chance to pursue whatever passion you choose.
traveling to visit friends who have moved across the country.
new years reunion trips to, say, lake tahoe.
a regular salary. health benefits. paid vacation days...
... or, for the non-corporate crowd, backpacking through europe.
reading for pure pleasure rather than for a test.
no more tests! (unless, like me, you head straight for a masters.)
weddings, weddings, and more weddings.
office happy hours--especially margarita mondays.
being part of the energy, the hustle and bustle, of a morning commute.
and feeling like you're really, truly an adult--like you really can do it on your own.

Sometimes I think you're writing about my life. It's so crazy how much I can relate to your posts!

gotta agree with ya girl! there are so many things I miss about college, but reading for reasons besides enjoyment are not some of them!

I think post college life has been confusing for me, but it's freeing to have that open road ahead.

I graduate in June and this post couldn't have been more perfect as I find myself getting overwhelmed. But, when I take time to breathe the open road doesn't feel as scary. Sending you hugs lovely lady!!! XO! Oh and come visit so we can finally meet!!!

I cant seem to get myself through college. I always take a break after every semester saying, I WILL NEVER GO BACK! I've been out of high school for three years and am not even a sophmore in college yet!

Okay, enough of that.

I love your blog, and I really like the idea of backpacking through europe.

It was nice to read this list because I'm graduating too, but I'm scared for what's next! There's no certainty, no schedule or routine yet, and that makes me nervous. Along with the whole finding a job thing...

So perfect. I'm graduating in five days from college. Although I'm sticking around for one more Masters year in graduate school I'm really looking forward to the post-college life. Mostly for that last reason you listed. I'm still not sure if the path I'm on is the one I really WANT to be on and it's good to know there are many options ahead of me. Thanks for an excellent post!
