liberty island (and a third party.)

The third party, of course, was Radley :)

My mom and I held out on some of the bigger experiences until he arrived--including, naturally, Liberty Island and Lady Liberty herself. And oh, how worth the wait it was! Spotting the statue across the harbor was so spectacular, such a truly remarkable moment--and, yes, another item to check off on my (ever-growing) bucket list.

And to share that moment with two of the most important people in my life? Well, that truly meant something--meant everything, really. Here, a few snapshots of our unforgettable day...

Radley and I waiting (two hours!) for the ferry:
On the boat... (Can you tell how freezing we are?!):
The first, breath-caught-in-the-throat glimpse:
Because we obviously had to buy the foam crowns:
Stunning:
And, of course, being a total Francophile at the most American of monuments, standing with the Eiffel Tower figurine just behind the Statue of Liberty:
Bitterly cold as it was, the day still managed to be absolutely perfect in that postcard sort of way. The sky was clear, the sun was out, and I was basically giddy from the moment Radley joined us until the trip came to a close. I was struck, time and time again during those final days, by how much more meaningful something can be when it's shared with the people you really love.
