an update, a glimpse (and a whole lot of gratitude.)

First, a big thank you for all the sweet comments and emails and phone calls on Friday--I was really touched by the outpouring of encouragement I received for my humble little radio reading, and I was reminded once again of just how lucky I am to have such a wonderful support system cheering me on. So I'll say it again: thankyouthankyouthankyou.

The experience itself was just so much fun--so exciting. I'd never actually been to a radio station before, and as you can see from these pictures, Radio DePaul is pret-ty cool inside. (How legit are those wall murals?!) The atmosphere was buzzing and energetic, and between the host and the Threshold editors and my fellow reader, I was just thrilled to be in such wonderful company.

It can be (really, really) terrifying to share your work, in any form, because you feel so exposed, so vulnerable. When you put something out there, you're opening the door for criticism--and that can be incredibly intimidating.

But it can be really rewarding, too, so it's a risk you have to learn to take. You have to swallow your pride, shake the insecurities, and just let go of the fear that your work won't be received well. Otherwise, how will you ever know, right?

To the artists (of all kinds) out there, I'm curious: Do you struggle to share your work? What sorts of standards do you set for yourself? How do you ignore the voice that tells you not to try?

I love your blog!

And I can relate to the feeling of being scared to share your own art/work very well, although I really don't know why. Wish I was a less insecure person for sure!

Following you now :) x

I absolutely do. I feel so vulnerable and do not want people to judge ... I literally just had a conversation about this with my internship advisor ... so glad you posted this. And, YES congrats to you on reading your work. XO!

that's awesome that you were on Radio DePaul. A few of my friends have radio shows on there!
