oh, just another flower post.

A week or so ago, I was lucky enough to be given flowers twice in a three-day span. (I know, he's a good one.) Usually I don't have the best of luck with plants, but I was determined--so I did my best to keep the bouquets fresh. I set them near sunlight, changed the vase water, and re-trimmed the stems regularly... And it worked for a little while.

But then the petals grew dry, the leaves turned crisp, and it became clear that no amount of water or sunlight or "flower food" would bring these bunches back to life.

This morning, though, I decided that they look even better this way. The colors are richer, the shades a bit deeper--and I think that's something to keep in mind. I'd worked so hard to keep them just right, to keep them perfect, and it turns out they were so much better off on their own.

New, it seems, isn't always better.
There's a lot to be said for a little bit of character.

I usually save one flower every time I get a bouquet. I have a base in my room with all of them in it, looking at it always brings back good memories.

Lovely post!

i love fresh flowers, but I also love how the flowers look when they get all dried up. i once was given flowers- roses- after a ballet recital... i must have been like 8 or 9 years old. i saved the flowers for 4 or 5 years! i loved looking at them everyday!

Agreed. And it's a constant love reminder, what could be wrong with that? A week later I am constantly justifying dead flowers on my desk, but they make me smile. (and a few are still alive!)

That's why I don't like flowers as gifts. Because they die. But they are pretty while they last.
