January 24, 2011

so, is it time for another weekend yet?

Okay, I try not to be all "Here's what I did this weekend!" very often, but, well, it was an especially good one... So here's what I did this weekend.

First stop--One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago, Petterino's
It's located right in the heart of the theatre district and, well, I love theatre. Plus, I'm a total sucker for a good ambiance--and who wouldn't love a place covered wall-to-wall in celebrity caricatures? (Can you spot David Schwimmer?)
Next stop--Wicked! I swear, every time I see a show, something about all the city lights and the flashing marquee and the energy of the streets just makes me feel eight years old again--like the whole scene is straight out of a movie. Broadway shows in general--but Wicked especially--just make me absolutely giddy. (And yes, I still cry every time I hear "Defying Gravity" live. And, okay, "Because I Knew You," too.)
And then Sunday, of course, was the Big Game... And even though we didn't win--even though we ended up playing our third string quarterback, ugh--it was the perfect day. Seriously. Good friends, good food, great city. I'm telling you, there's simply nothing like Chicago on game day.
And, okay, post-Bears loss we decided the best thing to do would be to eat our sorrows via homemade pizza--served, of course, on our fancy football cutting board:
Bacon and real mozzarella on one side--chicken, spinach, and soy cheese on the other... (Can you guess which side is mine?) Oh, and for anyone who loves homemade pizza, you absolutely have to try the Fabulous Flats multi-grain pizza crust. We've officially named it the best we've ever had. So. Good.
Lesson of the weekend:
Fabulous food can make up for heartbreaking loss.
(And, well, doing it all in good company helps too.)

What about you, friends? How was your weekend?*
Stay tuned: I'll share the real awesomeness of my weekend tomorrow! :)

*Note: This question is not open to Packers fans.

I can answer this question because I'm not a packers fan! whoo!

Ha, well I took a trip to Memphis this weekend for the first time ever. I ran, well walked the majority of a 5K...and I realized very quickly that I am RIDICULOUSLY out of shape...so I will be joining a gym after work.

Wanna know something really silly? I was in Chicago this weekend and forgot you lived there until I was walking the streets. Glad you had a lovely weekend.

Don't worry...I cry every time too ;-) I've seen it three times now (and I don't even live in the city)

The lighting at the restaurant looks so romantic. Sounds like a fun weekend, plus yummie home made pizza? I don't think one can ask for more.

Happy Monday :)

Sounds like a great weekend you had! Minus the losing game.
Never experienced a Broadway show before, sounds like a great experience! Love the song, 'For Good' from Wicked though!

You just brought the biggest smile to my face! Ok, I cry at those Wicked songs, too. Gotta try the pizza crust-- we're big fans of homemade pizzas here. :)
Hope your week is as stellar as your weekend was!

I won't be one of those sassy Packer fans that chants "The Bears Still Suck!"... it was a good effort, but I'm pretty stoked that the Pack pulled it out :) At least it was an awesome game to watch! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE "Wicked"... I've seen it twice now, and I definitely do cry!
