my new little desk nook:

I'm a big believer in creating the sort of space for yourself that will open you up--that will allow you to be the most you. For me, that means simple, neat, and virtually clutter-free. When it comes to design, I tend to lean toward minimalism--I like a lot of sunlight, a lot of white, a lot of books, and plenty of pops of color. (Preferably in teal.)

My new workspace? Well, it's me to a T:
Below I've got my "Great Women Rulers of Literature" ruler from Greer Chicago, a framed drawing by Jaimers (which, yes, is on the page of a French book!), and some of my favorite works of fiction:
A few of my favorite (and highly recommended!) reads: Man Walks Into A Room by Nicole Krauss, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Imperfect Birds by Anne Lamott:
And here I've got my grace Philosophy candle, the library candle Sam gave me from Portland's ink & peat, one of my beloved Tiffany boxes (swoon), my One Line A Day journal, and more of favorite books:
This, of course, is one of my favorite parts of our house because I absolutely love postcards. There's a giant box of them hiding somewhere in our apartment, but in the meantime, I'm sort of loving all the Paris-ness:
What sorts of things do you keep in your space to make it yours?
Do you have a dream workspace in mind? (Mine would have bay windows!)

my desk says everything about me. when i saw that you keep your paintbrushes in a sauce jar, i was was like "hey! I do that!" i use old glass honey jars to keep things in, and use old soda bottles to put flowers in. i love it, but my brother calls it clutter, ha ha. it is an obsession for me :)
i have a top part to my desk, a shelf-like thing, so i keep seashells, soda bottles, and a little ceramic candle holder (scent: sun and sand)on it. but mine is a little more...cluttered, or filled up...than yours. i love how simple and clean it all looks.
i especially love the desk!

your desk space is amazing! i love to do a deep clean of my desk every month. out with the old, and in with the new! i also love postcards. I try to buy a few unique ones wherever I go, and hang them on my "postcard wall"!

Perfect. It's very "you" and that's exactly what a workspace should be! I'm so lucky that mine IS in a bay window... I'm making it over this month, so I'll share when I'm through. My fave space in the house. :)
Happy MLK Day!

beautiful, beautiful work space! i love how it's filled with things you love. marquez is my favorite author! one hundred years of solitude is pure genius, as is love in the time of cholera (SO much better than the movie), no one writes to colonel and his short stories, bundled into one delicious collection called "collected stories." happy monday!

Love it! My desk has photos of family and friends, cups of pens, highlighters, and sharpies, candles, my iHome, and a little Believe decoration. I like this idea of introduction to your desk, I might need to a do a blog post on mine someday!

I am in love with your nook! It looks like something from a magazine. This post makes me want to go home and organize my desk space (we just moved so I get a fresh start. A box with teal or fuscia hanging folders filled with organized papers, tucked away at my feet, my favorite books one corner, favorite photos on one side of the corner, a favorite painting of mine on the other. My sketch book and black leather journal in the other corner with my mason jar of Pens, pencils and paint brushes on the other. Perfect! Now, I just need to go do it! :)

Love your space!!! I really wish I had a study space..I keep my laptop on top of my bunny's cage, LOL! I live with 5 other people in a 3 bedroom ranch house...so space is a bit tight and I've been longing for a place of my own for a long time. I can relate to your postcard collage...I have a bulletin board above my bed with postcards & maps of Australia on it! (I lived there for a bit last year). Other than that, it's pretty slim pickens as far as space goes--but I am moving out this August so I'll be able to finally create my dream space then. Thank so much for sharing! :)

Such a great space! I love the idea of keeping your favorite books close. I just finished my first Nicole Krauss book (History of Love) and I'm feeling the need to snatch up the rest of her books ASAP!

My favorite part of my workspace: quotes! (forgive the ugly links)

My dream workspace would have a window seat...sigh
