because sometimes, new is necessary.

For creatures of habit like me, it can be really difficult to step out the safety net of routine--to do anything that veers outside the comfortable, familiar motions of the everyday. For as long as I can remember, I've had a natural tendency to run through my days on autopilot, oftentimes forgetting to fuel the fiery, more adventurous side of myself.

But every once in a long while, even I can recognize when I'm in a deep, dusty, unbelievably dull rut... this morning was one such time.

So what did I do? Well, nothing drastic. nothing crazy.

But I did manage to part my hair on the other side. And I ran a different route through the city. And I ate lunch at a corner cafe I've never tried before. And I wore clothes that I've owned forever, but mixed them up in a fresh way. Oh, and I also began a new story rather than adding to my now-seven-chapters-in (!!) manuscript.

And you know what? I feel better already.

Do you get stuck in your comfort zone?
What do you do to mix it up?

I'm the same way. Change is hard, but I'm trying to take little steps. Good for you!

yes, i have an issue with change, too, and it annoys the crap out of me!
but what do I do? i kinda do odd stuff... like stuff that i'll look back on and shake my head at, wondering what in the world i was thinking. it's pretty funny, though, and i can look back on those things and laugh.
but for the normal stuff, i'll change up my hair like you said, or leave everything undone that i obsess about every other day.
i love change, but in a way, it scares me to death. you know?

every day of my life is a struggle to get out of that zone. I love routine, but sometimes it feels like it's crushing me. I realized the other day my greatest fear is not living my life to the fullest.

at the end of the day I always try to write down unique ways in which I was loved throughout the day and unique ways in which I loved people throughout the day. If you look for it you can find extraordinary and different in every ordinary day.

This is such a good post. I get into those ruts too and you're right, just a simple change can really make a difference in the day.

That is so wonderful and I think we all get stuck in a bit of a rut, I've found myself in one as well, and changing it up a bit can really be fun and freeing!
