I'm always struck by the random and wonderful places where advice emerges, where direction decides to surface.
Yesterday, a few minutes before take-off, the man beside me on the plane turned and said:
"Hi, I'm Eric. and I know most people choose not to speak to the person next to them when they fly, but I want to be constantly meeting new people... if we're not meeting new people, our lives become static, don't they? And I don't ever want a static life. I want to live on the move."
I'll admit--when he first turned and began to speak, I inwardly sighed and thought oh here we go, dude, please just let me read my book. And then I listened to him. And I realized how wrong I was. And we talked. And I met a new person. And he taught me things.
And it was life in motion.
Pretty incredible, wouldn't you say?

Thanks so much for this encouragement. I'm flying 3 times this month and have the same attitude. I've already flown twice. I'm gunna be sure to talk to the people around me on my last flight.
Ahhhh, now I will think twice before tuning out the person next to me! Have a great day!
that is definitely incredible. "strangers are just family you have yet to come to know."
Wow, that's so true!! What a nice way to open a conversation and really open your mind too :)
Sometimes we forget that at any moment of any day, we can meet our future best friend, our future support group...
What a lovely reminder :)
What a great story!
pretty incredible indeed! glad you've been having traveling summer fun! the bachelorette party looks like a blast!
Just tumbled upon your blog and wow! I love it. That was so profound. I have never thought about how much I live life statically. It is so true though. Thanks for the wisdom!
That IS incredible. Wow, I wish I was bold enough to do that.
xx
that was surprisingly nice, and for sure refreshing. Looks like the guy has experience about how to interest people in talking to him :)... good for you.
This is amazing!
